Skin Peels

Skin peels can dramatically improve red, pus filled acne blemishes and improve the appearance of mild acne scars. Chemical peels can be very effective in removing and minimizing excess, stubborn blackheads by penetrating clogged follicle. A chemical peel is a skin treatment technique to improve and smoothen the texture of the skin, using a chemical solution that causes the dead skin to wear and eventually peel off. The regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.

Some of the Skin Peel treatments offered are :

1. Glycolic Peel :

Glycolic acid is currently a popular treatment for winkles and acne. Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane and is a fruit acid. When applied to the skin, it helps to remove the glue that holds the older, rougher and dryer skin on the surface. When it removes that top layer of skin, the fresh, new layer is visible. It’s this layer that’s without damage and which looks fresher. People who have glycolic acid peels look younger, with fewer fine lines and wrinkles, they often notice their skin is quite a bit less oily and is much clearer.

Gycolic acid peel is a fairly light peel done that will usually result in few, if any, side effects. A light layer of the peel is applied to your face and left for a period of time that will depend on the particular peel you are having, the reasons for having it. The peel is removed after the stipulated time. With a light peel like a glycolic acid peel, there is no real recovery time and no pain relievers are necessary.

2. Salicylic Peel:

Salicylic acid peels are very common in acne treatments. While they are generally suitable for most skin types, people with oily, acne-prone skin tend to see the best results. Salicylic acid peels can help improve skin conditions such as clogged pores, oily, congested skin, acne and blackheads.

Your skin will first be primed with some kind of prep solution. This removes any residual facial oils to allow the peel to be more effective. After the prep solution dries, the salicylic acid peel is applied to your skin. The person giving you the peel will set a timer for how long it should be left on your skin. When the time is up, the peel will be neutralized and then gently removed with some water or a cleanser. Facial redness, or Erythema, post-peel should subside in a few hours. For some people, the redness can linger around for a couple of days later. As with all exfoliating treatments, salicylic acid peels will make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Therefore, it is very important to stay indoors and wear a good sunscreen when you go outside, especially the first two days after you get the peel.

3. Jessners Peel :

Jessner's Solution is a superficial peeling agent we also use that contains a combination of lactic acid, salicylic acid and resorcinol. It can help with fine lines and wrinkles, smooth and soften skin texture, and help to balance irregularities in the skin tone such as acne hyper pigmentation and melasma (mask of pregnancy). This type of peel is proven to be very safe and effective in darker skin tones.

vThis peel is a wonderful way to fight the effects of time, sun damage, and environmental assaults, and keep your skin fresh and youthful. It may be used to treat medical and cosmetic skin conditions including photo aging, acne, melasma post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation, and age spots.

A peeling solution is applied to the skin, and allowed to soak in. After a predetermined length of time, the solution is neutralized and removed. Over the next several days, the top layers of skin slough off in the treatment area. The depth of the peel is determined by the formula, and the duration of skin contact. The peel has very little to no downtime.

4. TCA Peel :

For uneven skin tone, damaged skin, fine lines, melasma, hyper pigmentation or facial scarring, consider having a TCA peel treatment. A TCA peel is a non-toxic chemical peel. TCA stands for trichloroacetic acid which is considered a relative of vinegar. This particular type of chemical peel is considered to be one of the strongest available, with a strength in the range of 5% and 50%. This peel is most often applied to the face, neck and hands. The chemicals in this peel can also be used for treating specific spot areas on the face or hands.

TCA peels are most commonly used to reduce fine lines, to reduce the appearance of age spots and brown spots, to treat some forms of acne and to enhance the appearance of sun-damaged, leathery-looking skin. A superficial TCA peel will remove the top layer of skin, which has been damaged by the sun. The deeper the peel that is used, the more damaged skin cells are removed. However, a deeper peel also means more discomfort and a need for more recovery time. The higher concentration of chemical peel that you have applied to your skin, the deeper into your skin it will work. After about a week, the old skin will have peeled off and you will be left with fresher, more radiant skin. TCA peel may require downtime of as much as seven to ten days. Possible side effects would be burning of the skin, changes in skin pigmentation, and persistent redness of the face, swelling and sensitivity to the sun.

5. Cosmelan Peel :

Cosmelan Peel is a deeper chemical peel, which is used to tackle severe, deep and stubborn pigmentation. It is the ideal treatment for Indian skin types. Cosmelan is a De pigmentation treatment based on the inhibition of tyrosinase, a basic enzyme in the melanin formation process. Several of the substances present in Cosmelan formula act by blocking this enzyme. Its principal action is the elimination of melanin patches on the face (melasma and chloasma).

The Cosmelan Depigmentation treatment is very effective in all types of melasma, rapid and easy depigmentation action, compatible with all skin types, rejuvenates the skin and has high safety margin.

It involves cleansing of the skin and the application of a yellow mustard colored mask (Cosmelan 1). You will go home with the mask on. The mask will be left on for a total of 4-8 hours depending on your skin type. After which the mask has to be removed by you with water and a neutral cleanser. You will then apply the mesoestetic Hydra-vital factor K cream (which we give you at the clinic). Second stage is the home bound. It consists of the daily application and continual use of the Cosmelan 2 cream. The cream is applied three times a day, the first week following the application of the mask, then twice a day for the second week, and once a day the third week forward.

During the first two days of treatment, the skin may turn red and peel mildly. If the skin is very sensitive, the patient may experience itching. Slight burning and tightening of the skin is also absolutely normal, especially during the first 24 to 48 hours after starting the treatment. To relieve these problems, it is advisable to apply the mesoestetic Hydra-vital factor K, whenever necessary.
